India's first Indian Institute of Skills at Kanpur

In alliance with the Institute of Technical Education (Singapore), the Skill Development Ministry has decided to set up the Indian Institute of Skills. The country’s first Indian Institute of Skills was dedicated to the public of India, by the laying of the foundation stone, by Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister, just before delivering his speech at a rally in Kanpur, in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The idea of such an institute was conceived by the Prime Minister when he visited Singapore's Institute of Technical Education. 

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) stated in its report that this institute will have best practices inspired from the Singapore Institute, including its mode of training. A proposal has been made by the Union ministry to set up six such institutes across the country. A major part of the onus has been given to the state governments in implementing the scheme successfully.

SCERT launches online training programme for Teachers

The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) launched a software named as ‘online in-service teacher capacity-building programme’ to help teachers attain an in-depth knowledge of their subjects. The main aim of the online programme is to enhance the teaching skills of the guest teachers. And the programme is aimed at training as many as 50,000 teachers.



According to the DNA report, the newly launched software will help as many 50 mathematics teachers and 70 mentor teachers working in different schools operating under the Directorate of Education in the first month.

CBSE schools to go cashless from Next year

In a significant development the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked schools to adopt cashless transactions from January 2017.


In a circular, the board has decided to introduce e-payment facilities for collection of exam fees, affiliation and other activities in the schooling system. The circular also stressed on schools to give importance to promote benefits of cashless transfers in its neighbourhood.

UK and China plans for Educational collaboration

The UK and China have agreed on six areas to focus on in their continued cooperation in the education field, during a visit by high-profile UK cabinet ministers to Shanghai.


During the annual UK-China Education Summit, the UK Secretary of State for Education Justine Greening and Chinese Minister for Education Chen Baosheng signed off on an Action Plan under the UK-China Partners in Education Framework that outlined key priority areas for education cooperation beyond 2016.

PEF to launch free education for Disabled persons

Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) has announced to launch free education project for partially disabled persons in collaboration with Special Education Department.



Talking to Radio Pakistan, Punjab Education Foundation’s Managing Director, Tariq Mahmood said the project would be started in one hundred ninety-four PEF schools and over twelve hundred students would benefit from it.

Central job and education quota for mentally impaired

Ahead of International Day of Disabled Persons on December 3, the Narendra Modi government has paved the way for a landmark initiative increase in reservation for the differentlyabled from 3% to 4% in public sector jobs and educational institutions. 



For the first time, the government would reserve jobs for persons with intellectual disability and mental illness. The government would introduce the Right of Persons with Disabilities Bill in Rajya Sabha.

Haryana govt to set up fishery college in Hisar

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar laid foundation stone of the new campus of Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences and said the government plans to set up a fishery science college here.

Upgrade midday meal facilities in Schools : MPHRC

Acting on a Hindustan Times report about poor mid-day meal facilities in the schools, the state human rights commission has issued recommendations to the government for immediate up gradation of such facilities so that students get hygienic and healthy food.


Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) said mid-day meal should be served in a clean surrounding and number of plates, glass and other utensils should be more than the number of students in the school.

Transgenders get education aid from Kalki Subramanian

Activist and artist Kalki Subramanian donated the money she earned by selling her paintings for the education of four transgenders in the city on the eve of World Transgender Day.


"One of the beneficiaries, Anu, has completed her under-graduation. She wanted to pursue IELTS, but did not have money to pay her fees. While Lalitha and her mother are struggling to pay her nursing fees, Kotravai wants to pursue law and Maitreyi, Siddha medicine. I wanted to help them.

Govt launches portal for complaints against Private schools

Now, there is an online portal to exclusively register complaints against private schools. The education minister Manish Sisodia launched the "grievance redressal and monitoring system for private unaided recognized schools" is a time-bound one. Officials get 15 days to inquire into and close a case.


"We have been getting a lot of complaints about public schools — on fees, books, admissions, etc. The portal will have the complete list of all private schools. DDEs (deputy directors of education) will be alerted immediately," said Sisodia at the launch.

Government launches Pradhan Mantri Yuva Yojana for Entrepreneurs

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship launched Pradhan Mantri Yuva Yojana to scale up an ecosystem of entrepreneurship for youngsters. "The scheme spans over five years (2016-17 to 2020-21) with a project cost of Rs 499.94 crore and will provide entrepreneurship education and training to over 7 lakh students in 5 years through 3,050 institutes," an official statement said. 

"It will also include easy access to information and mentor network, credit, incubator and accelerator and advocacy to create a pathway for the youth."

Government schools tie up with Cambridge University

Maharashtra for the first time in history will offer an international programme for Class 10 students from the next academic year. The state education department will launch the Secondary School Certificate International (SSC-I) programme for 100 state government schools, in association with the University of Cambridge on a pilot basis.


“It will implemented for 100 schools to make SSC international,” confirmed state education minister Vinod Tawde. As part of the programme, the students will be prepared to answer programmes for international student assessment, progress in international reading literacy study, and trends in science study and mathematics.

Kerala govt revamped "School Wiki"

IT@School, a Kerala government initiative to impart IT education in schools, is bringing in ‘School Wiki’ on the lines of Wikipedia, with an aim to promote knowledge generation and sharing among school students and teachers in the state. AP Government Supports Students To Study Abroad

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu took part in the Kapu Job Mela which was organaised by the State Kapu Federation at Ibrahimpatnam on Friday. The Job Mela was being conducted at Nova Engineering College from the past three days.


Addressing a gathering, the Chief Minister said that the students of Kapu community studying degree would receive a scholarship of Rs 10,000 and Rs 6,000 for intermediate. He further stated that the government has allotted Rs 1,000 crore for the development of Kapu community.

Top priority for Child health & education: Mahbubnagar Collector

Maharashtra Ranks Third in Quality of Education

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today said Maharashtra, which has been “languishing at either 14th or 15th place in terms of quality of education”, has moved to the third place in the last one year. Researchers turn smartphone into Microbiology tool

Researchers at Stanford University have developed a smartphone microscope that allows kids to play games or make more serious observations with miniature light-seeking microbes called Euglena.



“Many subject areas like engineering or programming have neat toys that get kids into it, but microbiology does not have that to the same degree,” said Ingmar Riedel-Kruse, assistant professor of Bioengineering.

US Team Won $750,000 Price from NASA

A team in the US has won $ 750,000 prize from NASA for designing a robot that can retrieve samples from challenging terrains, and could help the space agency explore surfaces of planets such as Mars in future missions.



After an intense robotics competition, the West Virginia University Mountaineers of Morgantown bagged the largest prize awarded in the five-year run of NASA’s Sample Return Robot Challenge.

Govt signs MoU with German state on higher education

Pakistan Education Centre To Offer IGCSE Course

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) to be launched by Pakistan Education Centre (PEC) next year will be affordable to thousands of aspirant expatriate students, the Principal has said.

Two Indian cyclists To Raise Funds For Girls Education

Two young cyclists 26-year-old Sumeet Paringe and 22-year-old old Prisiliya Madan, from Mumbai have been cycling across India armed with a mission. The duo, who started their journey from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu and will end it at Khardung-la in Jammu and Kashmir, have undertaken this expedition for a cause they care strongly about-girl child education. 



This 'Cyclists for Change journey' will see them crossing 11 states, covering a distance of 4,400 kilometres in a span of 70 days. Though Paringe and Madan have both paddled on this route before, this is their first trip together.

500k Students To Benefit From Free Education

Almost 500, 000 students will benefit from the progressively free Senior High School education, President John Mahama has announced.



President Mahama addressing Chiefs and people of Agona Abodom in the Central Region on Monday during the commissioning of a Community Day SHS said “120,000 boarding students have been earmarked for the programme,” which he said will increase “the total number of students in senior high schools enjoying progressively free senior high school education to almost half a million Ghanaian students.”

USAID project to help Basic Education in Somalia

A new $65 million project to improve education sector in Somalia launched on 31 august, with the presences of Somali’s Federal Government officials and U.S. officials in the capital Mogadishu, Garowe online reports.



The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Education, Abdulkadir Abdi Hashi, the Minister of Finance, Mohamed Aden Ibrahim, U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, Stephen Schwartz and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Assistant Administrator for Africa, Linda Etim, presided the signing of the bilateral agreement to formalize USAID’s support for educational development over a period of five years.

Tamil Nadu accounted for 45% of growth in Education Loans

Tamil Nadu has accounted for 45% of all incremental education loans between FY13 and FY15. Of the total loan growth of Rs 6,597 crore in these two years, loans in Tamil Nadu have grown by 2,969 crore.


The data released gains significance in light of the recently-elected AIADMK's election manifesto promise to waive off student loans and farm loans.

New Award For Special Education Students

An award recognising the abilities and achievements of special education students was unveiled at the annual Special Awards Presentation Ceremony yesterday.

The Lee Kuan Yew Exemplary Student Award honours students in government-funded special education (Sped) schools who rise above their disabilities.


The 20 Sped schools in Singapore, such as Pathlight School for the autistic and Singapore School for the Deaf, will be able to nominate at least one student per year for the award, starting next year.
