India's first Indian Institute of Skills at Kanpur

In alliance with the Institute of Technical Education (Singapore), the Skill Development Ministry has decided to set up the Indian Institute of Skills. The country’s first Indian Institute of Skills was dedicated to the public of India, by the laying of the foundation stone, by Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister, just before delivering his speech at a rally in Kanpur, in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The idea of such an institute was conceived by the Prime Minister when he visited Singapore's Institute of Technical Education. 

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) stated in its report that this institute will have best practices inspired from the Singapore Institute, including its mode of training. A proposal has been made by the Union ministry to set up six such institutes across the country. A major part of the onus has been given to the state governments in implementing the scheme successfully.

SCERT launches online training programme for Teachers

The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) launched a software named as ‘online in-service teacher capacity-building programme’ to help teachers attain an in-depth knowledge of their subjects. The main aim of the online programme is to enhance the teaching skills of the guest teachers. And the programme is aimed at training as many as 50,000 teachers.



According to the DNA report, the newly launched software will help as many 50 mathematics teachers and 70 mentor teachers working in different schools operating under the Directorate of Education in the first month.

"I Am Kalam" Science Exhibition In Kerala

CBSE schools to go cashless from Next year

In a significant development the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked schools to adopt cashless transactions from January 2017.


In a circular, the board has decided to introduce e-payment facilities for collection of exam fees, affiliation and other activities in the schooling system. The circular also stressed on schools to give importance to promote benefits of cashless transfers in its neighbourhood.

UK and China plans for Educational collaboration

The UK and China have agreed on six areas to focus on in their continued cooperation in the education field, during a visit by high-profile UK cabinet ministers to Shanghai.


During the annual UK-China Education Summit, the UK Secretary of State for Education Justine Greening and Chinese Minister for Education Chen Baosheng signed off on an Action Plan under the UK-China Partners in Education Framework that outlined key priority areas for education cooperation beyond 2016.

PEF to launch free education for Disabled persons

Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) has announced to launch free education project for partially disabled persons in collaboration with Special Education Department.



Talking to Radio Pakistan, Punjab Education Foundation’s Managing Director, Tariq Mahmood said the project would be started in one hundred ninety-four PEF schools and over twelve hundred students would benefit from it.

Central job and education quota for mentally impaired

Ahead of International Day of Disabled Persons on December 3, the Narendra Modi government has paved the way for a landmark initiative increase in reservation for the differentlyabled from 3% to 4% in public sector jobs and educational institutions. 



For the first time, the government would reserve jobs for persons with intellectual disability and mental illness. The government would introduce the Right of Persons with Disabilities Bill in Rajya Sabha.
